Living in
Vancouver's health conscious environment, it is very difficult to pick up a paper or flip
past the news without getting some basic health and fitness information thrown in our
direction.Why is it then, that given the facts, so many people get their exercise from
merely dodging them? Most of us have a basic
knowledge of what good nutrition entails, just as most people can name at least a couple
of the benefits of adhering to a regular exercise program. So what gives? IF we actually
do know what healthy behavior is, then why are the majority of us tired and stressed-out,
claiming to lack the energy to exercise, while being dissatisfied with our bodies,
overeating, and consciously choosing to eat foods that we know will not improve our
health?
Reasons why we choose to continue experiencing less than
optimal health:
. May not seek out the proper
health, diet and fitness information:
LACK OF KNOWLEDGE
. May not make goals in the
area of health and fitness, and if done, the goals are not" SMART"in design:
LACK SMART GOALS/ DIRECTION
. May start out with good
intentions but may lack direct and effective support/guidance by one/group that demands
one to be personally responsible and accountable:
LACK OF A
MENTOR/COUNSELOR
And the number
one reasons why we are dissatisfied with our health!!!
. May have not made a
personal, intrinsically motivated choice...which, in combination with the top 3, allows
all of us the life-enriching experience of health and wellbeing.

INTRINSIC MOTIVATION
Health is a continuum. If we think of health
as a journey then our goal is to experience and appreciate each stage while looking
forward.
